After doing a basic questionnaire with my group I made an advanced questionnaire myself and used my analysis from our last questionnaire to come up with more new questions to get specific information that I need to find out for my radio station. I asked a total of 15 questions in my advanced questionnaire which I feel will be enough information for me to know what I should include in my radio presentation.
From my questionnaire I found that the majority of people I asked were between the ages of 15 and 17, however there were also some older people, this means that I will need to please all ages with my show but still try and have a young feel to it so in will gain the majority of people who I asked in my questionnaire. From my questionnaire I found out that most people listen to the Radio all the time followed by more than once a day, once a day, most days and hardly ever which had just 2 people, this shows how popular radio is and that there is a lot of competition, it also shows how much people rely on radio to get them through the day.
I asked whether people owned their own car or used cars regularly, 29 out of 30 people said they did and just 1 person did not, from my previous questionnaire I found out that people listened to the radio mostly when they were in a car, with such a large majority of people having or using a car regularly it shows me that our radio station must benefit people in cars. To benefit people who are in cars we will have a traffic report on the news which will let them know where the traffic is and what the weather is like etc.
To find out my competition I asked people what their favourite radio station was, Capital was the most popular station with 13 people choosing it as their favourite, after capital came Radio one, Kiss, Heart and Eagle. From this research I think it will be a good idea to listen in to Capital Radio as it will give us some ideas on how to be a popular radio station. I then asked if they would be interested in a new radio station and a total of 19 people said yes, this shows me that people don’t feel completely satisfied by the current stations and want more than what they provide.
To find out what genre of music people listen to I asked people what sort of music they listened to and then had the choices of; Grime, RnB, Dubstep, DnB, Indie, Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, Classical, Soul and Reggae. The majority of people liked RnB, Grime, Indie, Dubstep and Hip Hop, therefore I will try and include all of these different genres in my radio station to keep everyone happy, by doing this it will increase my target market and increase the number of listeners. I also asked people what sort of tempo they like the most, most people liked Fast but in rhythm followed by, loud and crazy, slow and chilled and slow instrumental, this information lets me know what sort of music to play.
As so many people use the radio these days I decided to ask what the main reason was that they listened to the radio, most people said for the music, 6 people said for the news, 4 people for entertainment and 2 people said for interviews of people. I then went on to ask people if they would be interested in a radio station that plays more music and less talking is done, a total of 22 people said they would be interested in this and just 8 people said no, from this information it is clear to see that people want more music to be played and less chit chat.
To find out what voice people prefer I asked people what sort of voice they enjoy listening to the most, the most popular was Male Casual; therefore on our radio station we will be sure to have a male speaking in a casual way as it is want people best like. To get people to tune into our radio station instead of other stations I thought of having an on air competition where listeners could win tickets to festivals with their favourite bands and singers.
To interest even more people to listen to our station I asked if people are accessible to the internet, and if they said yes I asked whether they would be interested in downloading podcasts of our show, 26 people said that they would be interested in this and just 4 people said that they wouldn’t be interested in this.
To find out when the most popular time of day that people listen to the radio I asked “what time of the day do you usually listen to the radio?” The most popular time of the day was from 12 till 5 in the afternoon, by finding out this information I can see when to put on the news so that everyone can listen to it and know what’s going on, this is useful as it will be the main news of the show and will be best used as it is the most popular time of the day to put it in.
