Radio Fresh Evaluation Script

In What ways does your media project use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media product has many of the same attributes that most popular radio stations have, for example the majority of radio stations have jingles in their show to separate out the different focuses of the show, and their jingles also catch the attention of the audience and let them know that they are tuned into your station. I also created a jingle which had a sound effect then speech and ended with another short sound effect; this gets the listeners attention and lets them know that the focus of the show is going to change from a song to the news for example. Although I used the same layout as other real radio stations I decided to change some parts of the show, one thing that I did was include various sound effects which correspond with the dialogue of the show, one example of this is in the sports section when Alex says “a two footed tackle from behind” after this is said we added a “boo” noise which shows our reaction to what happened. After listening to four different radio artefacts it was clear to see that the News was always laid out in a certain way, it started off with a story that affected people in the local area, then moved onto a strange story with a bit of humour, after that they usually had quite a serious story and then moved on to sport and traffic, I decided that this was a good way of setting our show out so we used the same template.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My radio station tries to please people of all ages and types, our main target audience is youngsters who are into the night club sort of music which probably will not appeal to people of older generations, and however we do have certain days and times that we try to please older generations by playing their type of music. Our loud jingle is definitely for the younger audience as it is very in your face and catches everyone's attention and the glass smashing sound effect at the end of it, by having this jingle it lets people know that they are tuned into radio fresh.

What kind of media institution might distribute Your media product and why?
My news report from my radio station would best suit the style that Eagle radio use, this is because we started with a story that will affect people who lived locally with our story about ice making conditions dangerous and then moved onto a quite peculiar story about scientist being able to communicate with animals, then a story that will affect them again with our royal mail strike and finishing on a serious story about a boy who was murdered. After the main news we swiftly moved onto sport and traffic which was separated from the main news by our jingle. However our news has a slightly different feel to that of Eagle radio, for example we talked in a much more casual way and used repetitive music in the background to give it a younger feel.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
My audience for my media product will mainly be teenagers and young adults, this is due to the choice of music we will be playing and the style of dialogue and the jingles which are all to attract the younger generation, However we also try to please the older generations by having old classics from 10am – 3pm, this will allow them to listen to what they like whilst most youngsters are at school, college and work, by doing this it means that I attract most people depending on their age will determine when they listen to my radio station.

How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience by having a loud jingle with a short guitar sound effect which will catch the listeners attention and let them know that this radio station is going to be loud and in your face, this will attract the younger audience as this is how they act as well. In our news we have quite a formal jingle which lets people know that the focus of the show is changing to the news, this attracts the older generations as they are interested in the news and want it to be formal instead of loud and casual like the youngsters.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt how to use garage band on the I Mac's which allowed me to edit and record my radio station, I used garage band to add in jingles and various backing tracks to add atmosphere to the show, I also cut down a lot of our recording and shifted it all around to make it fit better. I also added different sound effects to the show which goes with what is being said and what the story is about, for example I put in a car horn noise before the traffic came in, this adds humour to my show and lets people know that traffic news is coming next.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I learnt a lot of valuable information from my preliminary task, for example I added music behind our dialogue and then turned it down so it was low enough for the voices to be clear and loud, by doing this it creates a better atmosphere and avoids complete silence which would be boring and dull, however we found that on serious news stories it is better to just have the vocals as this would make it seem serious. Also from my preliminary task we came up with our jingle which we went on to use in the actual product as well, if we had not of done our preliminary task we would not of known how to use the technology and wouldn’t have an idea of what sounds good and what sounds bad.

Dolby

Remember that with Radio, the only way you can communicate with the audience is aurally so it is really important that the script and information is clear, explained and direct. Proof-read and make sure the language is appropriate.
Radio Fresh
This is my favourite idea for a radio station name as it doesn’t link with just one particular genre of music, it links with more than one meaning that the station as it could refer to ‘fresh new songs’ and also a new radio station. Because it doesn’t refer to one particular genre it leaves the listeners mind open to more than one and makes you think about what genres it could possibly be. I think this could like to RnB, Hip-hop, Indie, Dubstep etc.

DJ Dub
I’m not too keen on this name for our radio station, the reason for this is because it sounds like a radio station that purely concentrates on Dubstep, also, it sounds like it would be aimed more to a younger generation as opposed to a wider range, we are looking for something that applies to wider audience and also show a wider range of genres.

Rock n Rolla FM
‘Rock n Rolla FM’ sounds like it applies to more of an older generation of listeners and is concentrated on rock than anything. This sounds like a good name, but doesn’t relate back to our planning very well. So this name won’t be considered for the final name.

Radio Ember
Radio ember is a rather good, as it seems like it complies well with a wide age range. Although, it does sound like it is more for Rock and Indie which limits the genres to only a few of my choices for the final planning. This is the reason for me not using this as the final name, the name has to link well with the whole planning as this is the first thing people know about the radio before listening to it.

Script for Radio Fresh

VP = Vox Pop

(Song fades into Jingle)
(Jingle)
Alex: This is Radio Fresh
Mike: This is Radio, Fresh
Pat: This, is, Radio, Fresh

(News Jingle)

Mike: Record breaking ice in London causing serious injuries all over the city, countless ambulance calls have been made during this weather crisis, but obviously the roads are too dangerous for emergency services to be running. The government is trying to come up with solutions on how to solve this but due to the shortage of grit not much is being done to prevent this, here are what some Londoners have to say.

Londoner: “It’s just amazing how many people fall over in London recently
”Londoner: “I just wish that something could be done to prevent this ice
”Londoner: “I fell over five times walking to work today….unbelievable
”Londoner: “England just can’t cope with this weather; our whole city has come to a standstill”

Pat: If you thought Dr. Dolittle was just Fiction, you’re wrong! A scientist in Reading has recently discovered a way to translate the brainwaves of an animal into the human language. Mike Jenkins a 52 year old animal researcher from Whitley goes to Buckingham palace this afternoon to receive his OBE for animal studies. He was quoted saying “for many years now I’ve been looking into what animals are trying to say, now we finally know how to treat pets such as cats and dogs in certain situations and learn to train them correctly” Thousands of animal lovers will be crowding round Buckingham palace to congratulate Dr.Jenkings on his recent work.

Mike: And now onto the main headline news in Berkshire.

Pat: On the 22nd of February in Little Sandhurst, 17 year old Steven Ball was found dead by an early morning dog walker at the cold hour of 4:00 am. It was revealed that the student at Sandhurst school and part time sales-assistant at the Co-operative was stabbed several times whilst walking home from a late night shift. Steven Bell was found with no mobile phone or money, the contents of his wallet was scattered around the body with only membership cards and photos, all the valuables had been taken either before or after the attack. Later in the day Steven's parents were called to the scene to confirm his identity. P.C. John Michael's was called to the scene to start the investigation.

Alex (VP): This obviously is a traumatic time for family, friends and also villagers in the local area. It occurred at the early hours of this morning, but if anyone has any information about the attack, please report to the Thames Valley Police service immediately, your accounts matter.

Mike: Pandemonium at sorting offices all over Berkshire these past couple days due to the Royal Mail going on strike. Due to a series of strikes since November, people all over the Berkshire have been missing out on vital letters and bills, causing problems all over the county. Manager of Bracknell sorting office, Steven Parker was interviewed this week ad was quoted saying ‘until people respect what we do, we don’t see why we can’t have our say back, over years we have been given the relatively unfair wages for one of the most demanding jobs, post has been a common feature to our lifestyle for decades.’ It seems this quote was rather true, and struck a few chords as members of the public speak out about how this strike has affected them

Girl VP: I’m a single mother living in Whitley with 3 kids, with the father gone and me out of my job we rely on the benefits the council give us at the moment, because of the strike we haven’t received it for 2 months! I can barely even afford break and milk!

Mike: The council and the Government are looking into ways to resolve these issues and Royal Mail should be back to normal in the new few days.

(Weather Jingle)
Alex: Weather for the weekend, think it’s time to bring out those layers! Frost is going to be taking Britain over, with it already in London its only a matter of time before it reaches Berkshire, also bring out the scarves because prevailing south winds will be blisteringly cold. Grit would be advised for your paths and driveways because these slippery conditions are going to treacherous towards the evening, so take it easy on the roads, wrap up warn and keep drinking those hot chocolates!

Traffic Report
Hello and welcome to Radio Fresh, the traffic today is going to be mayhem! All of this cold weather that we are experiencing at the moment is making roads extremely dangerous due to ice covering the roads; my advice would be to avoid driving as much as you possibly can. Obviously if you have important places to be like work, school and college, then you have no choice in the matter, however I would advise you to only use main roads as they will have already been cleared by grit trucks, but try to avoid minor roads as they will not have been cleared and will be very dangerous. All roads should be clear by the weekend assuming that this is the last of this cold weather, however in the mean time all public transport will be up and running for your use.

Ideas for Radio Fresh: Alex, Pat and Mike
The main part and spine of a Radio Station is obviously the presenter; nobody wants to be listening to the radio having to listen to a boring presenter. Our main presenter will be a male with an upbeat, happy voice and also he must be interesting to listen to. He should emphasise certain words when necessary to make it seem intriguing, such as little facts he could emphasise how many number 1s a singer has for example. But this doesn’t mean we should only have 1 presenter only, we can have another presenter if necessary who is female to make it more mixed gender and make sure there would be a bigger range of listeners, women could feel they relate more to the female and the men could relate more to the male.
For a jingle a techno sound will be played and then a male voice will say ’99.9 Radio Fresh’ this will be edited to make it seem slightly remixed and then a sound effect that sounds like smashed glass will play, this will be slightly loud to grasp the listeners attention but not seem too in your face and enthusiastic. The mains voice will be deep and exciting to make it seem catchy and modern.
For the news and weather, a woman will be presenting who seems upbeat and makes the news sound interesting, fast music with a good beat will be playing quietly playing in the background to attract attention of the audience so they know the news has come on, a jingle will be played to start it off that says ‘the news’ with the sound effects to introduce the different section. Vox pops will be used to make news stories seem more interesting so people’s opinions on the news are bought into it so you get different views from listeners and people involved in the stories.
Order of show:
A song will be played at the beginning of the clip, which quietly fades out at the end to show it’s a radio station and then merges into the loud attention grabbing jingle to finish the transition.
Then we speak about the song that was played quickly and random short facts so listeners can be interested, then its then goes on to the news. Another jingle is played to introduce the news and then the good beat starts playing, the presenter then introduces the news, the news beat is rather repetitive and seems rather stereotypical to news shows on the radio, at the end an ending jingle plays which finishes the transition and the actual Radio Fresh jingle is played to introduce the following section.

Chosen News Stories:
· The first scientist to talk to animals gets OBE for years of research.
· Bank gets broken into by 4 youths in masks after crashing into the window in a Nissan micra.
· Woman writes off mobility scooter after high velocity spin out.
· OAP gets arrested after selling back alley fireworks and narcotics to underage teens.
· Man fall in lake after saving his wife…a swan
· Jack Poston has long term injury on wrist and out of pool season due to his hand stuck in pocket of pool table.

Mike, you have understood well what the news is and managed to link it to how the audience may react. Now look at the style of language used- is it formal? is it simple or difficult language and why? Also, you have only looked a one news story but consider what type of stories they have in one broadcast and the order which the stories are broadcast. Within a news broadcast there is surely not just news- is there background sound and a jingle? Look at timings and also when you have the interview- where was it taking place? Was there a sense of location created and how?

Eagle Radio News

The news is introduced with a news beat sound effect which lasts about 5 seconds and is has a males voice over the top of it saying "Eagle Radio News" this introduces the news very well and lets all the listeners know that the news is coming up after. The main story that the Presenter says about is the response time of Surreys Emergency Fire Services, she explain the story and then has somebody from the council give his verdict on the situation.“Hampshire county council is in the process of trying to save 55 million pounds this year, the fire brigades union claims surrey county council are misleading the public over cuts to the fire service, the unions say there may be waits of over 15 minutes for a fire engine after the council downgraded response times, on their website the council say their new time is ten minutes, but the FLU claim they will be they’ll be counting those minutes from the time the appliance is deployed, and not from the time of the emergency call” This news interests the listener as it is affecting their lives where they live, this is very important information that people need to know, for example if they had a house fire and called the fire brigade, it would take a good 15 minutes now as the council has downgraded the response time of the service, the presenter puts real enthuses on the numbers like “55 million”, “15 minutes” etc, this shows how shocking it is and catches the listeners attention, this passes on her feelings to the listener as they become disgraced by the time it will take for the fire service to respond from now on. If this information was not enough for the listener they then had Richard Jones from the union to call in and explain why this may be catastrophic, “once a fire gets a hold it goes very very quickly often a small fire in the living room for instants can envelop the whole room and break out of that room within five minutes, we do need to be there as fast as possible” By having someone from the union talking to the listeners it shows them just how serious this is and that every second is vital, the more seconds that are taken for the fire service to get there, the more the fire will grow and the more damages will be done. The news presenter then goes on to say “In a statement surrey county council say that their response times are now in line with most other fire and rescue services” This puts the listeners at ease and makes them worry less about their local fire service taking longer to get to them than other counties fire services. The women speaks in a very simple tone which is extremely easy to understand with quite long pauses between each word, she also speaks in quite formal language which is what you would expect from the news. If the news was spoken in a casual form of speech some people might not understand what is being said and it might not suit the story, also if the reporter speaks too quickly then people wont hear what is being said. The story that follows the council information and how they are trying to save money is a story about masked men who broke into a jewellers with sledgehammers, "masked men raided a jewelery shop in bookam, they used sledge hammers to smash the windows of christians on the high street, they then made off with what police call a substantial amount of jewellery, in a silver of grey get away car" This news story warns people that there are some vandals about who are willing to break the law to get money, this story is said in a much more serious tone of voice as apposed to the first story, there are still long pauses so you can understand her easily and it is still in formal speech. The news finishes off with the weather report where they give a forecast of the next three days and the say weather we are in for a good weekend or not, the news is set out in this order because the first story lets them know about whats happening with the money in their local council which is the most important thing, then they go onto a criminal action story which will anger the listener but get them in the know and warn them of the danger, and then to finish off they have the weather which is a nice way to end the news as its not taken too seriously, then to close the news report they have the same sound effect and males voice as the beginning of the news, this shows that the news has finished and the focus of the show is going to change. They also used local shop names and road names, this gives it a local feel and interests the listener more about the stories. Whilst the news is being read there is a constant background news beat sound which is repeated over and over again, it lasts for about 6 seconds then starts playing again, this gives it more of a news feel and if people have just tuned in they will know that it is the news part of the show.

BANG RADIO 103.6

Presenters Voice-
Very low male voice, extremely casual and very fast paced speaking. Quite humorous, for the younger audience. Sounds like he is very excited about everything he is saying, keeps the audience on edge. Very different to other radio stations that I have been listening to, has an extremely young feel to it, young people’s language and conversation.
Genre-
Ludarcis ft Tpain- One More Drink, rapping and quite offensive language so people of an older generation would probably not want to listen to it. Rianna ft Drake- what’s my name, another sound for the younger generation, however can still be enjoyed by older listeners as well. Mainly R&B with a little bit of drum and bass, and some more crazy tunes. Usually quite bassy songs being played. A mix of reggae and bass, relaxed song but still with a very young feel about it.
Jingle-
“BANG RADIO!” quite a loud jingle to gain the full attention of the listener, this is good as it makes listeners fully aware of when something is going to happen or change. Women’s voice so you know it is a different voice to the presenter and will be certain that it is the jingle.
Sound Effects-
Electric sounds before and after the jingle, quite a cool noise will be enjoyed by the young listeners. A loud BANG noise before some of the tracks, again it is a very young thing to have, but it also lets the listeners know when a song is going to played or something is going to happen.
Interviews/Phone Ins-
On Bang radio they had Chipmunk in for an interview, they asked him questions like “how many girls have you got at the moment then?” and chipmunk laughed and said no comment mate, a very young interview , not very serious at all but finding out what the listeners really care about. They also asked him about how big his house is, how many cars he has etc. Very personal questions but they can laugh about it. Phone INS were all from youngsters telling the radio station that they love them and to play a certain track, this gets the audience involved with the show and gives them the choice of what song to be played.
Weather/News-
In normal conversation the presenter said about the lovely weather outside, don’t you just love rain, this is sarcastic and puts humour into the weather, again giving it a young feel. They are situated in London so the weather will apply to people around that area. For the actual news and weather report it is done by a young women presenter still talking in young dialogue, however she still lets the listeners know all the vital information that they need to know when they are driving to places or planning what to do later on. She included things like “If you’re planning on going mental this weekend and getting drunk, I strongly suggest you do it indoors because there’s a storm coming in!” They are giving the weather a young feel and not taking it too seriously but also letting the listeners know what is going to be happening.

Product Placement

From my real media artefacts research it is clear to see that there isn’t enough for the younger generation, therefore I feel it will be a good idea for our radio station “Radio Fresh” to obtain both young music and young presenters with quite casual dialogue, this will interest the young audience as they feel as if they can relate to the show and presenters, however, we will also have some parts for the older generation like oldies night every Thursday from 6-10 and Friday night meltdown where we will play a mix of old music and new tunes with dubstep and drum and bass remix’s, although this may not work I feel that it is worth a shot and hopefully will keep everyone happy.
From my primary research of my questionnaires I have come to a decision that 5 O’clock is the best time to have the news as it is prime time with the peak of listeners, by doing this it means that the news will be heard by the most people. The Genre’s of music I will be playing is Indie, Pop, Rock, Dubstep, Drum n Bass, RnB and old classics. By having this wide variation of different genres it means that my target market of listeners will increase as it should keep everybody happy.
As the majority of the listeners who will be tuning into our station will ever be working or at collage/school from 9 till 4 during that time I will have a slightly older presenter to take control and play some songs for the older generation, I feel that having old music in the day and young music at night is the best way to go as it suits their lifestyles.

BBC Radio Berkshire

Jingle- “BBC Radio Berkshire” the jingle is in a high females voice, it is said in quite a formal way but is still obvious enough when the focus of the show changes from news to music and before or after interviews etc. The jingle helps the listener to know that they are tuned into the right radio station.

Genre- the genre of music that they play on BBC Radio Berkshire goes from old classics by people like Johnny cash to modern songs from people such as; the script, olly murs, Ce lo green etc. The variety of music that they play allows them to interest all sorts of people to listen to their station; however they don’t have much for the younger generation which narrows down their market slightly.

Presenters Voice- Male voice, quite monotone and formal as if he was talking to someone of importance, this makes the listener feel important but doesn’t give them the feeling that they are talking to a friend like on other radio stations. For the news there is a formal speaking female, this suits the role of news reporter well as it separates out the different parts of the show.

Interviews/Phone Ins- They were interviewing a local person who was quite high up in reading football club, Mr Madejski who is the club chairman and proud owner of the club and stadium. They ask him questions about how he got into it and why he did so, he answered “I wanted something to be in my life, I had nothing to do and this seemed to be almost too perfect of an opportunity so I took it. Also I do it for my local community and my own ambitions” This gives listeners something to listen to and learn about. For phone ins they have chose a song hour were you can call or text the show asking for a song of your choice to be played, this is very good as it gets the listeners involved and makes them feel part of the show.

Weather/News- On BBC Radio Berkshire they have hourly updates of the news and weather, this is a good idea as people know that if they tune in on the hour they can find out what’s going on in Berkshire and what the weather will be doing. Their main news report is at 5 O’clock as this is when most people are tuned into their station, on the 5 O’clock news they tell their listeners all the top stories about music, people in general and Berkshire. After that they have a sports section where a male presenter lets the listeners know what’s happening in the sporting world. Then after the main news and sport they have a 2 minute weather report which says how the current day will go on weather wise and how tomorrow will be, this helps out listeners as they can plan their evenings and their next day’s depending on the weather. Finally there is a traffic report done by the news lady again, this tells drivers where all the traffic is and warns them of dangerous conditions or crashes, this informs drivers where to go and where to steer clear of.

Sound Effects- There aren’t many sound effects on BBC Radio Berkshire, however they do have news music to bring in the news and a different news sound to exit the news, this sound effect is useful as people know when the news is starting and when it has ended, it separates out the show and lets the listeners know what’s happening.

Heart Radio

Jingles – “This is heart!” the jingle for Heart is in a women’s voice as she almost sings it to you. By having a jingle like this it makes the listener aware of what radio station he is listening to and they will know that something will be happening after the jingle like songs, news, interviews etc. It is quite a formal jingle and not to loud and abrupt.

Genre- Lady Gaga- Alejandro, quite a young song, not too fast and loud, quite laid back pop music. The Script- Break even, Indie music which is quite calming but at the same time can be fast paced and make listeners sing along. There is quite a big variation in genre of music on Heart; this is a good thing as it will interest all sorts of people to listen to their station. Adele- make you feel my love, very slow singing with a piano as the backing track, usually popular with almost all ages as it never gets old. Will Young- Light my fire, faced paced beat with his male voice, quite catchy and for most ages.

Weather/News- “Thames valley air base might be going bust, already with over 50 people being dismissed from their jobs” Local news and information that people need or will want you know about, this gets the listeners in the know which they like. Weather and traffic information is included for local people wondering what will be happening in the next hours or days, a lot of people listen to the radio on the way to or the way back from places, therefore having traffic updates is very popular as it will tell them the best route to take and whether they should prepare themselves for a long journey home. Besides the music the news is probably the most important part of the show so it needs to be done well and at the right time.

Presenters Voice- Low male voice, quite formal for the older generation but a bit of casualness in there to for the younger audience. Male’s low voices are usually liked by everyone, also for the news there is a female. Female’s suit doing the news as they are easy to understand and the change of voice lets you know that something is changing. Presenters change in the duration of the day; this lets people know that the day is moving on and if they have a favourite presenter they will listen at a certain time.

Phone Ins- People call in and ask for them to play a certain song as they have a half an hour spree of this, by doing this it involves the listeners in the show and gives them the choice of what should be played. They also have phone ins where the listener tells them a funny story that has happened to them, for example one person said about how he went a whole day at work not realising he had odd shoes on, this adds humour to the show and gets the audience involved.

Interviews- On their show they interviewed Take that about their journey over the years, they asked them “ were you happy when you finally all got back together?” take that replied “yes, we couldn’t believe how stupid we were being! And on our first performance as a band again, it was absolutely magical”. This interview gets take that to talk about their history, most people are interested in take that so it gets a lot of people’s attention and keeps them listening.

Sound Effects- A typical news theme tune comes on before the news and carries on throughout the news and weather, then to end it there is a short burst of news music, this lets people know what is going on with the news and whether it is just starting or finishing.

Informing and Planning Research

After doing a basic questionnaire with my group I made an advanced questionnaire myself and used my analysis from our last questionnaire to come up with more new questions to get specific information that I need to find out for my radio station. I asked a total of 15 questions in my advanced questionnaire which I feel will be enough information for me to know what I should include in my radio presentation.

From my questionnaire I found that the majority of people I asked were between the ages of 15 and 17, however there were also some older people, this means that I will need to please all ages with my show but still try and have a young feel to it so in will gain the majority of people who I asked in my questionnaire. From my questionnaire I found out that most people listen to the Radio all the time followed by more than once a day, once a day, most days and hardly ever which had just 2 people, this shows how popular radio is and that there is a lot of competition, it also shows how much people rely on radio to get them through the day.

I asked whether people owned their own car or used cars regularly, 29 out of 30 people said they did and just 1 person did not, from my previous questionnaire I found out that people listened to the radio mostly when they were in a car, with such a large majority of people having or using a car regularly it shows me that our radio station must benefit people in cars. To benefit people who are in cars we will have a traffic report on the news which will let them know where the traffic is and what the weather is like etc.

To find out my competition I asked people what their favourite radio station was, Capital was the most popular station with 13 people choosing it as their favourite, after capital came Radio one, Kiss, Heart and Eagle. From this research I think it will be a good idea to listen in to Capital Radio as it will give us some ideas on how to be a popular radio station. I then asked if they would be interested in a new radio station and a total of 19 people said yes, this shows me that people don’t feel completely satisfied by the current stations and want more than what they provide.

To find out what genre of music people listen to I asked people what sort of music they listened to and then had the choices of; Grime, RnB, Dubstep, DnB, Indie, Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, Classical, Soul and Reggae. The majority of people liked RnB, Grime, Indie, Dubstep and Hip Hop, therefore I will try and include all of these different genres in my radio station to keep everyone happy, by doing this it will increase my target market and increase the number of listeners. I also asked people what sort of tempo they like the most, most people liked Fast but in rhythm followed by, loud and crazy, slow and chilled and slow instrumental, this information lets me know what sort of music to play.

As so many people use the radio these days I decided to ask what the main reason was that they listened to the radio, most people said for the music, 6 people said for the news, 4 people for entertainment and 2 people said for interviews of people. I then went on to ask people if they would be interested in a radio station that plays more music and less talking is done, a total of 22 people said they would be interested in this and just 8 people said no, from this information it is clear to see that people want more music to be played and less chit chat.

To find out what voice people prefer I asked people what sort of voice they enjoy listening to the most, the most popular was Male Casual; therefore on our radio station we will be sure to have a male speaking in a casual way as it is want people best like. To get people to tune into our radio station instead of other stations I thought of having an on air competition where listeners could win tickets to festivals with their favourite bands and singers.

To interest even more people to listen to our station I asked if people are accessible to the internet, and if they said yes I asked whether they would be interested in downloading podcasts of our show, 26 people said that they would be interested in this and just 4 people said that they wouldn’t be interested in this.

To find out when the most popular time of day that people listen to the radio I asked “what time of the day do you usually listen to the radio?” The most popular time of the day was from 12 till 5 in the afternoon, by finding out this information I can see when to put on the news so that everyone can listen to it and know what’s going on, this is useful as it will be the main news of the show and will be best used as it is the most popular time of the day to put it in.

Mrs D

This is a good start. You begin to identify some c and cs. To improve, you need to focus on the news more and be more analytical of the effect of the c and cs rather than just identifying them - a link to audience will help.

Eagle Radio

Interview
They interviewed ce-low-green on their show and asked him various questions about his old band gnarls barkly and how he has evolved into a solo artist. They also praised him about how successful he has become as a solo Artist, they also talked about his new single “it’s ok” and how he came up with the idea.

Phone – Ins
Listeners call in and tell a funny story that happened to them, “someone wore the same pair of jeans for a year for an experiment to test how much bacteria would be created, and it was the same amount as if you wore the jeans for one day”. Competitions where callers are put up against each other to win a prize

Weather/News
Recent stories that have been in the news. Local disagreement, weird stories, economic cuts and rises. “Amount of people who eat full English’s still”. Weather, temperature and traffic information. Just today’s weather, nothing really said about tomorrows weather until later on in the day. Local roads (M3) Train Information and buses. This information is usefull for listeners wether they are at home or on the go and need to know what is happening on the roads ahead of them so they can plan their journey, it will also allow listeners to know what the weather will be doing in the duration of the day and days ahead. The News is in quite a formal format with a quiet backing track of news music which fits in nicely as it gives it a good setting and whenever somebody listens to it they will know that it is the News, they also have a different presenter for each type of news (Sport, Weather, Traffic and News in general).

Presenters Voice
Clear voice, well spoken and doesn’t talk too quickly so you can understand what he is saying. Women’s voice, constantly reminding you of the time and the radio station. It is important to have a good presenters voice as people will recognise it when they are tuneing in and keep listening to it.

Genre of Music
Old classics like Queen and new pop music, not too crazy music, soft tunes for a more mature listener. The odd faster track for the younger listeners, trying to keep everyone happy and gain more listeners. Robbie Williams, liked by young people and old people. Pink for the younger more wild generation but still bearable for the older audience. It is important for all ages to like listening to our station so we will try and please everyone and vary the music.

Sound Effects
Techno sound before they introduce their station name and the next track. News music when the news is coming up, and some more news music when the news has finished. A small clip to build up to the next song.

Jingles
“96.4 Eagle Radiooo” Jingles are important because they stick in people's head and they know that they are tuned into your radio station, they are also spread to friends which will increse listeners.

You need to upload work. You are behind.

Question one – What Gender are you?
Over half of the people that took our questionnaire are female. Most of the females that were asked on the questionnaire said that they listened to BBC Radio 1. The majority of the male sex said that they listened to Capital fm.

Question 2 – How old are you?
The majority of the people that took our questionnaire were 17 – 20 years old. In fact half of the people that took the questionnaire were 17 – 20 years old. The second highest age that we asked was 13 – 16 years old. The rest of the people that we asked were all fairly equal ages from 20-40 years. The majority of the younger generation said that they access the radio whilst ‘On – the – go’. This is mostly because of the technology that the younger generation tend to have. This could show a trend within radio stations, meaning that Capital FM and BBC Radio 1 are stations for a young age.

Question 3 – Do you listen to the radio?
80% of the people that took the questionnaire said that they listen to the radio. Only 20% said that they do not listen to the radio. The main reason why people do not listen to the radio said that they don’t because they do not have a car or a device that can access radio on the go.

Question 4. How often do you listen to the radio?
From this pie chart you can see that the majority of people listen to the radio once a day, the next biggest group of people didn’t listen to the radio at all. Then it was the people who listened to the radio more than once a day followed by people who listened once a week or more than once a week.

Question 5.What radio stations do you listen to?
We asked people what radio stations they listened to, Radio 1 and capital fm were the most popular choices. BBC Radio 1, Kiss 100, Heart and Magic were the next most popular stations with Eagle, other and people who don’t listen to the radio were the least favourite.

Question 6. Where do you listen to the radio?
The majority of people listened to the radio in the car, followed by at home, at work, on the go and I don’t listen to radio. From this it is clear to see that people like to listen to the radio whilst moving or doing something, this could be to pass time quickly.
