Jingles – “This is heart!” the jingle for Heart is in a women’s voice as she almost sings it to you. By having a jingle like this it makes the listener aware of what radio station he is listening to and they will know that something will be happening after the jingle like songs, news, interviews etc. It is quite a formal jingle and not to loud and abrupt.
Genre- Lady Gaga- Alejandro, quite a young song, not too fast and loud, quite laid back pop music. The Script- Break even, Indie music which is quite calming but at the same time can be fast paced and make listeners sing along. There is quite a big variation in genre of music on Heart; this is a good thing as it will interest all sorts of people to listen to their station. Adele- make you feel my love, very slow singing with a piano as the backing track, usually popular with almost all ages as it never gets old. Will Young- Light my fire, faced paced beat with his male voice, quite catchy and for most ages.
Weather/News- “Thames valley air base might be going bust, already with over 50 people being dismissed from their jobs” Local news and information that people need or will want you know about, this gets the listeners in the know which they like. Weather and traffic information is included for local people wondering what will be happening in the next hours or days, a lot of people listen to the radio on the way to or the way back from places, therefore having traffic updates is very popular as it will tell them the best route to take and whether they should prepare themselves for a long journey home. Besides the music the news is probably the most important part of the show so it needs to be done well and at the right time.
Presenters Voice- Low male voice, quite formal for the older generation but a bit of casualness in there to for the younger audience. Male’s low voices are usually liked by everyone, also for the news there is a female. Female’s suit doing the news as they are easy to understand and the change of voice lets you know that something is changing. Presenters change in the duration of the day; this lets people know that the day is moving on and if they have a favourite presenter they will listen at a certain time.
Phone Ins- People call in and ask for them to play a certain song as they have a half an hour spree of this, by doing this it involves the listeners in the show and gives them the choice of what should be played. They also have phone ins where the listener tells them a funny story that has happened to them, for example one person said about how he went a whole day at work not realising he had odd shoes on, this adds humour to the show and gets the audience involved.
Interviews- On their show they interviewed Take that about their journey over the years, they asked them “ were you happy when you finally all got back together?” take that replied “yes, we couldn’t believe how stupid we were being! And on our first performance as a band again, it was absolutely magical”. This interview gets take that to talk about their history, most people are interested in take that so it gets a lot of people’s attention and keeps them listening.
Sound Effects- A typical news theme tune comes on before the news and carries on throughout the news and weather, then to end it there is a short burst of news music, this lets people know what is going on with the news and whether it is just starting or finishing.
