Eagle Radio News

The news is introduced with a news beat sound effect which lasts about 5 seconds and is has a males voice over the top of it saying "Eagle Radio News" this introduces the news very well and lets all the listeners know that the news is coming up after. The main story that the Presenter says about is the response time of Surreys Emergency Fire Services, she explain the story and then has somebody from the council give his verdict on the situation.“Hampshire county council is in the process of trying to save 55 million pounds this year, the fire brigades union claims surrey county council are misleading the public over cuts to the fire service, the unions say there may be waits of over 15 minutes for a fire engine after the council downgraded response times, on their website the council say their new time is ten minutes, but the FLU claim they will be they’ll be counting those minutes from the time the appliance is deployed, and not from the time of the emergency call” This news interests the listener as it is affecting their lives where they live, this is very important information that people need to know, for example if they had a house fire and called the fire brigade, it would take a good 15 minutes now as the council has downgraded the response time of the service, the presenter puts real enthuses on the numbers like “55 million”, “15 minutes” etc, this shows how shocking it is and catches the listeners attention, this passes on her feelings to the listener as they become disgraced by the time it will take for the fire service to respond from now on. If this information was not enough for the listener they then had Richard Jones from the union to call in and explain why this may be catastrophic, “once a fire gets a hold it goes very very quickly often a small fire in the living room for instants can envelop the whole room and break out of that room within five minutes, we do need to be there as fast as possible” By having someone from the union talking to the listeners it shows them just how serious this is and that every second is vital, the more seconds that are taken for the fire service to get there, the more the fire will grow and the more damages will be done. The news presenter then goes on to say “In a statement surrey county council say that their response times are now in line with most other fire and rescue services” This puts the listeners at ease and makes them worry less about their local fire service taking longer to get to them than other counties fire services. The women speaks in a very simple tone which is extremely easy to understand with quite long pauses between each word, she also speaks in quite formal language which is what you would expect from the news. If the news was spoken in a casual form of speech some people might not understand what is being said and it might not suit the story, also if the reporter speaks too quickly then people wont hear what is being said. The story that follows the council information and how they are trying to save money is a story about masked men who broke into a jewellers with sledgehammers, "masked men raided a jewelery shop in bookam, they used sledge hammers to smash the windows of christians on the high street, they then made off with what police call a substantial amount of jewellery, in a silver of grey get away car" This news story warns people that there are some vandals about who are willing to break the law to get money, this story is said in a much more serious tone of voice as apposed to the first story, there are still long pauses so you can understand her easily and it is still in formal speech. The news finishes off with the weather report where they give a forecast of the next three days and the say weather we are in for a good weekend or not, the news is set out in this order because the first story lets them know about whats happening with the money in their local council which is the most important thing, then they go onto a criminal action story which will anger the listener but get them in the know and warn them of the danger, and then to finish off they have the weather which is a nice way to end the news as its not taken too seriously, then to close the news report they have the same sound effect and males voice as the beginning of the news, this shows that the news has finished and the focus of the show is going to change. They also used local shop names and road names, this gives it a local feel and interests the listener more about the stories. Whilst the news is being read there is a constant background news beat sound which is repeated over and over again, it lasts for about 6 seconds then starts playing again, this gives it more of a news feel and if people have just tuned in they will know that it is the news part of the show.
