Jingle- “BBC Radio Berkshire” the jingle is in a high females voice, it is said in quite a formal way but is still obvious enough when the focus of the show changes from news to music and before or after interviews etc. The jingle helps the listener to know that they are tuned into the right radio station.
Genre- the genre of music that they play on BBC Radio Berkshire goes from old classics by people like Johnny cash to modern songs from people such as; the script, olly murs, Ce lo green etc. The variety of music that they play allows them to interest all sorts of people to listen to their station; however they don’t have much for the younger generation which narrows down their market slightly.
Presenters Voice- Male voice, quite monotone and formal as if he was talking to someone of importance, this makes the listener feel important but doesn’t give them the feeling that they are talking to a friend like on other radio stations. For the news there is a formal speaking female, this suits the role of news reporter well as it separates out the different parts of the show.
Interviews/Phone Ins- They were interviewing a local person who was quite high up in reading football club, Mr Madejski who is the club chairman and proud owner of the club and stadium. They ask him questions about how he got into it and why he did so, he answered “I wanted something to be in my life, I had nothing to do and this seemed to be almost too perfect of an opportunity so I took it. Also I do it for my local community and my own ambitions” This gives listeners something to listen to and learn about. For phone ins they have chose a song hour were you can call or text the show asking for a song of your choice to be played, this is very good as it gets the listeners involved and makes them feel part of the show.
Weather/News- On BBC Radio Berkshire they have hourly updates of the news and weather, this is a good idea as people know that if they tune in on the hour they can find out what’s going on in Berkshire and what the weather will be doing. Their main news report is at 5 O’clock as this is when most people are tuned into their station, on the 5 O’clock news they tell their listeners all the top stories about music, people in general and Berkshire. After that they have a sports section where a male presenter lets the listeners know what’s happening in the sporting world. Then after the main news and sport they have a 2 minute weather report which says how the current day will go on weather wise and how tomorrow will be, this helps out listeners as they can plan their evenings and their next day’s depending on the weather. Finally there is a traffic report done by the news lady again, this tells drivers where all the traffic is and warns them of dangerous conditions or crashes, this informs drivers where to go and where to steer clear of.
Sound Effects- There aren’t many sound effects on BBC Radio Berkshire, however they do have news music to bring in the news and a different news sound to exit the news, this sound effect is useful as people know when the news is starting and when it has ended, it separates out the show and lets the listeners know what’s happening.
